If you fast forward to track 9, the Dead put on a clinic on how to take it all the way past the brink. The sickest Let it Grow I've ever seen live, that's
...
for sure. After it ended, I remember looking around, and everyone had that 'what the fuck just happened? stunned look on their face.

I loved seeing Jerry mimic Bobby during Terrapin, it cracked me up seeing how happy Jerry was at this show.
Anyways this Terrapin is monster, make sure ... to check it out if you're a fan of the song. Either way this whole show rips, the Jack Straw is wonderful as well.

My yellow 1968 VW bug caught on fire somewhere between Charlottesville and Richmond as I headed to this show. Only made it late in the game but still

ended up near the front with Jerry so close it was scary.

This FOB AUD is pretty OK to me, not the best. how can you screw up a Schoeps > Oade > PCM????? not really a better setup out there at the time.
...
Probably more of a reflection of exactly what was coming out of the speakers, or flying past the Schoeps, as FOBs can be too close to the stage, and don't get enough of the PA stack.
Check out for yourself before you pass on this important show, I would consider the 1 disc 2nd set essential listening.

OK, when I was in the Navy my ship was homeported in Norfolk, so I have caught more than my share of concerts at Hampton Coliseum, a massive venue with
...
crappy acoustics. I don't see how any of the previous reviewers could have thought this deserved five -- or even four -- stars. The sound is muffled, the audience noise overwhelms the band, and you really have to strain to hear the vocals. Phil and the drummers come through fairly well, but forget the guitars and vocals. Keyboards, I think Brent must've missed this show.
I've got audience recordings from 1970, where some brave soul was out in the audience hiding a reel-to-reel and holding a mic in his/her hands, that sound better than this.
Don't bother with the previous two nights. They sound WORSE than this.
Two stars...and that's being generous and reflects only my appreciation that someone tried to record this show (apparently from the top row) and uploaded to the LMA.

...very odd placement of BMR though (to me at least, and I like the song-I know a lot of those who don't) 2nd song/2nd set? They get it rolling with good

version of GSL then just bring it right down to the floor. Other than that it is a solid show for me

Great show. I have a copy of the video that I got from further. And this is an UNBELIVEABLE Terrapin station, especially to watch. Jerry is boppin around
...
all over his stage area during the jam, and just hammers it on the big notes. And the crowd goes nuts when he starts movin around . Not to mention the NFA, also the sickest I've ever seen. Garcia just attacks his guitar throughout, along with plenty of fist pumping. A very inspired Jerry performance.

The great Jack Straw was made better by a giant inflatable godzilla dancing raised above the heads of the audience. The Terrapin was INTENSE!!! Even
...
though this recording does not do it justice, there were waves of LOUD!!! cheering commensurate with the intense performance starting after the lyrics and ending around 9m:45s. The waves got progressively more intense and louder for a time and it seemed that they wouldn't end, even though with each wave there was a sense of amazement that they kept growing. If you were there, you probably remember this. On some recordings the cheering blocks out the music ala Stephen from 10/11/83 and Dark Star 10/9/89. I suspect that is not so here because this recording is FOB. Wharf Rat and NFA have some great ripping lines from Jerry. Lots of high energy!
